Palermo-Catania Lot 4

The Palermo–Catania Lotto 4A, covering the section between Caltanissetta Xirbi and Nuova Enna, forms part of themodernisation programme for the Palermo–Catania Messina railway line. The aim of the project is to increase the line’s capacity, reduce journey times and improve rail connections between Sicily’s main cities.

The contract involves the construction of a new railway section, mainly running on a route that diverges from the existing line. The works include tunnels excavated using five TBMs, as well as viaducts and other structures necessary to increase the speed, capacity and reliability of the railway infrastructure.
